Grassroots Sailing Club is an extension of Grassroots Sailing School. The club provides an inexpensive outlet for individuals who have taken a course and are either without a boat or are just looking for an opportunity to practice their newfound skills alongside experienced sailors without the expense of boat ownership. The sailing club offers access to keelboats for day sailing. We have recently incorporated online booking.

Grassroots Sailing Club is run by sailors & boaters who are passionate about their sport and are continually seeking out and providing opportunities for likeminded people to enjoy the sport and improve their skills at a reasonable cost. Some of the benefits of the club are regular access to boats in the 6-8 metre range, coupled with racing Tuesday nights and some weekends (great way to improve helming and sail trim skills). Gaining great experience quickly by sailing with more experienced club members, plus the camaraderie of making new friends in the sport you enjoy.

The club has a regular mentoring program (think of it as an apprenticeship) to hone the skills you learned in Basic so that you can competently, and confidently skipper a 6-9 metre boat with other club members. You will learn all about maintaining a boat and which is the best boat to purchase should you be so inclined (you won’t make the common mistake of purchasing the wrong boat)

The club often puts on special events. For instance, club members helping with the spring launch of the 34’ Catalina, located on Georgian Bay, were able to get a free sail on the Catalina while also learning how to tune the rigging on a bigger boat. From time to time on special occasions the club members took a boat out to watch the fireworks from the communities surrounding the lake. Your club membership also includes a social membership with the Cook Bay Yacht Club which allows our members to attend the CBYC events. This season we will be planning joint events with CBYC

Many of the club members have taken advantage of the special prices on charters on a big boat on Georgian Bay at substantial savings per day (overnight included). Other opportunities are group club sails in Georgian Bay and Sint Maarten in the Caribbean. There we have access to a 44 ft monohull. Other members have taken advantage of discounts on courses and charters in the Caribbean and Florida Keys during the winter and courses and charters at home. From time to time we may offer our more experienced members an opportunity to crew on deliveries we captain. When we do our charter/flotillas in the Mediterranean members generally get a preferred rate. We have done these in Croatia, Greece and Italy to date.

Full season membership: $900.00 pp or $1100.00 p/couple (some discounts may apply)

Monthly membership: $275.00 pp or $325.00 p/couple (Discounted prices to recent Grassroots Sailing graduates)

Compare this with the cost of owning a boat of a minimum of $ 3 – 4,000.00 per year not including cost of buying the boat.

"The Intermediate course and the Charter from St Maarten were terrific! Both my passion for sailing and skill level grew as a result. Thanks Rick."

"What a lovely bunch! If you are interested in learning how to sail and like hanging out with fun-loving, down-to-earth people, this is the place for you! This is less a fancy club but rather one of those places where you feel like you are at home."

"For me the course provided a great environment to increase my basic sailing skills. Over the past 4 years of owning a keelboat, I’ve realized that as much as sailing is a leisure sport, you need to have the knowledge to work through stressful situations. As a female I learned parts of the motor and gained confidence docking. The mentoring program offered once the course is complete is very good to to grow your skills so you feel much more confident."
