Start Keelboat Sailing Lake Simcoe (Day Sailing format)

  • Intended for students with little or no prior sailing exposure
  • Based on Lake Simcoe
  • 6 – 7.5 metre keelboats
  • One weekend or 5 weekday evening formats
  • Theoretical and Practical components
  • 14 hours on water building fundamental sailing skill
  • Low instructor student ratio
  • Work book provided for home study; no test
  • Pleasure Craft Operator Card training included if required
  • Optional sailing club membership with followup mentoring

  • Entry level intended for students with some prior sailing exposure
  • Based on Lake Simcoe
  • 7 – 9 metre keelboats
  • Two weekend or weekday evening format
  • Theoretical and Practical components
  • 24 hours on water building fundamental sailing skill plus 12 hours of mentoring
  • Low instructor student ratio
  • Online or classroom Theory and Pleasure Craft Operator Card (Not required if Basic Keelboat course theory completed)
  • Optional 56 hour package and followup mentoring

Basic Cruising Georgian Bay (Liveaboard format)

  • Entry level intended for students with little or no prior Keel boat exposure
  • Based out of Georgian Bay
  • Skill building intro with 22 foot or 25 foot keelboats
  • Liveaboard a 10 -15 metre keelboat
  • 5 or 7 day liveaboard format
  • Theoretical and Practical components
  • 5 to 7 days on water building fundamental sailing skill
  • Low instructor student ratio
  • Online or classroom Theory and Pleasure Craft Operator Card (Not required if Basic Keelboat course theory completed)

Coastal Navigation practical – Georgian Bay

  • This is an optional course but recommended in order to apply the skills successfully at the Intermediate level
  • Prerequisite completion of Coastal Navigation Theory (Basic & Intermediate)
  • 1- day practical on Georgian Bay or Lake Simcoe

  • 8 day/7 night live-aboard vacation style course
  • Certification required by bareboat charter companies

Advanced Cruising Course - Antigua to Grenada

  • 10days/9nights(normally8days/7nights)
  • Passage planning and vessel preparation for extended offshore passage  Minimum 48-hour passage, including sailing safely at night
  • Strengthen leadership and skippering skills to an advanced level  
  • Advanced navigation including modern GPS systems and AIS

  • Course taught by a Registered Sail Canada Intermediate Cruising Instructor

International Certificate of Competency challenge course

  • Sunday, July 21 from 9:00AM to 4:00PM
  • Dutchman's Cove Marina, 222 Fox St, Penetanguishene, ON L9M 1E7 
  • On Water Participant Skills Demonstration and Write the ICC Theory Exam
  • At a minimum the student must hold a Sail Canada Intermediate Cruising and a Basic Coastal Navigation Certificate or equivalent in experience. To be successful, the student must demonstrate their on water sailing skills to a satisfactory level plus pass the ICC exam, Anyone interested in taking this course will be required to review the theory material on line before the challenge date.
